Getting Started

What is PickiPet?

PickiPet is an app that helps you keep track of the foods and treats your pets like and dislike. You can scan barcodes, rate foods based on how your pet reacted, add notes, and set reminders to try foods again later.

How do I get started with PickiPet?

Download PickiPet from the App Store or Google Play, create an account, and add your first pet profile with a photo. Then start scanning barcodes when your pet tries new foods and rate them based on how much your pet enjoyed them.

Is PickiPet free to use?

Yes, PickiPet is free to download and use. All core features are available at no cost.

What devices is PickiPet available on?

PickiPet is available for iOS (iPhone and iPad) on the App Store and for Android devices on Google Play. The app requires iOS 15.1 or later, or Android 7.0 or later.

Do I need an account to use PickiPet?

Yes, you need to create an account to use PickiPet. This allows your data to be synced across devices and ensures your pet's food history is safely stored.

Pet Profiles

How many pets can I add to my account?

There is no limit to the number of pets you can add to your account.

Can I add photos of my pets?

Yes! When creating a pet profile, you can add a cute picture of your pet. This helps personalize their profile and makes it easier to identify which pet you're logging food for.

Can I edit or delete a pet profile?

Yes, you can edit your pet's profile information at any time, including their name, photo, and type. You can also delete a pet profile if needed, which will remove all associated food history.

Scanning & Rating Foods

How do I scan a barcode?

Open the app and tap on the barcode scanner button at the bottom of the screen. Point your device's camera at the barcode on the food package. The app will automatically detect and scan the barcode to identify the product.

What if a product doesn't have a barcode or the barcode doesn't scan?

If a product doesn't have a barcode or the scanner can't read it, you can manually enter the product information. Simply add the food details manually and proceed with rating it.

How do I rate a food my pet tried?

After scanning or entering a food item, you'll see rating options. Choose the rating that best matches how your pet reacted: loved it, bored of it, or disliked it.

What do the different rating options mean?

The rating options help you quickly categorize your pet's reaction:
Loved it means they probably devoured the food and left little to nothing behind.
Bored of it means they only ate some of it, or perhaps are bored of that particular food.
Disliked it means they ate very little, if any at all, or turned their nose up at it.

Can I add notes to food ratings?

Yes! Adding notes is highly recommended. You can record details like "The pâté was too dry, she only nibbled at it" or "They loved the chicken flavor but ignored the fish pieces." Notes help you remember why your pet liked or disliked a particular food.

Can I edit or delete a food rating?

Yes, you can edit or delete any food rating you've logged. Locate the entry you wish to change or delete and tap on it. From here you can modify the rating or tap "Edit Full Details" to modify the flavor, brand, and image of the food. You can also delete the log from this screen.

Reminders

How do reminders work?

If your pet didn't like a food but you think they might come around to it later, you can set a reminder when rating the item. When you rate a food as Bored of it or Disliked it, an option for setting a reminder will appear at the bottom of the food log window. Tap on Choose Date, select a date that works for you (the calendar will automatically suggest 1 week from today), and tap the X button to close the calendar.

Will I receive push notifications for reminders?

No, reminders are not push notifications. The reminder will only show when you open the app on or after the set date. This ensures you see the reminder at a convenient time without interrupting your day.

Can I set multiple reminders for the same food?

No, at this time you can only set one reminder per item.

How do I cancel or edit a reminder?

You can edit or cancel a reminder by tapping on the food item that has a reminder. At the bottom of the window, you can tap on the date to change it or tap on the X to delete it.

Organization

How can I see which foods my pet liked or disliked?

You can view your pet's complete food history in the app by navigating to the Food History page (clock button at the bottom of the screen).

Can I filter my food history?

Yes, you can filter your pet's food history by rating and by pet. You can also use the search bar to find specific items.

Can I export my pet's food history?

Currently, food history export is not available, but you can view all your pet's food preferences within the app. If you need to export your data, please contact us at info@picki.pet.

Data & Privacy

Is my data private and secure?

Yes, we take your privacy seriously. Your data is encrypted in transit and stored securely. We don't share your personal data with third parties. For more details, see our Privacy Policy.

Where is my data stored?

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a trusted cloud database service.

Can I delete my account and all my data?

Yes, you can delete your account at any time, which will permanently delete all your personal data and pet information. You can do this from the app settings or by contacting us at info@picki.pet.

Do you share my data with third parties?

No, we do not sell or rent your data to advertisers or third parties. We only use service providers (like Supabase for storage) that are necessary to operate the app. We collect anonymous analytics that are not tied to your identity. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Troubleshooting

The app crashes or freezes. What should I do?

Try closing and reopening the app. If the problem persists, try restarting your device. If issues continue, please contact us at info@picki.pet with details about what you were doing when the crash occurred.

I can't log in to my account. What should I do?

First, make sure you're using the correct email address and password. If you've forgotten your password, use the "Forgot Password" feature to reset it. If you continue to have issues, contact us at info@picki.pet.

My barcode scanner isn't working. How can I fix it?

Make sure you've granted camera permissions to the app. Ensure there's adequate lighting and hold the camera steady. Try cleaning your camera lens. If the barcode still won't scan, you can manually enter the product information instead. Feel free to reach out to us info@picki.pet to inform us of any barcode scanning issues.

I forgot my password. How do I reset it?

Use the "Forgot Password" link on the login screen. Enter your email address, and we'll send you instructions to reset your password.

The app won't load or sync my data. What should I do?

Check your internet connection first. Try closing and reopening the app. If you're still having issues, try logging out and logging back in. If problems persist, contact us at info@picki.pet.

Account Management

How do I change my email address?

You can change your email address from the app settings. Navigate to your profile settings and update your email address. You may need to verify the new email address.

How do I change my password?

You can change your password from the app settings under your profile. You can also use the password reset feature if you've forgotten your current password.

Can I use PickiPet on multiple devices?

Yes! Since your data is synced to the cloud, you can log in to PickiPet on multiple devices and your pet's food history will be available on all of them.

What happens if I delete my account?

If you delete your account, all your personal data, pet profiles, and food history will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. Make sure you want to proceed before deleting your account.
